First Step is a medical detox program that can help people who are suffering from the effects of alcohol and/or pain medications. The admission process starts with screening potential patients Monday through Friday (no drop ins) before they're accepted. Once their insurance company has been notified, an Aftercare Plan will be set up for them by our team - which includes everything such as psychiatrist visits or mindfulness training sessions if needed-and finally admitted into one of two hospitals where First Steps' services exist.
Baxter Regional has a qualified treatment team including a Medical Director, Hospitalists, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and nursing staff. Patients can have their primary care physician refer to First Step, or the patient can self-refer.
The ultimate goal of our First Step service is to provide a safe and comfortable medical detox in an acute care hospital for approximately three nights. Our patients are those who are in need of a medical detox, which is the very first step in any recovery.
