We understand that you may have some questions and concerns before, during and after your stay at Baxter Health. Below is some useful information that may help you prepare for your visit. Patient & Visitor Information

General Visiting Hours- Open Visitation

Women & Newborn Care Center- 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Critical Care Units- No visitation from 6 to 8 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Baxter Health Behavioral Health- Weekdays, 1 to 2 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. Weekends and holidays, 1 to 3 p.m. No children under age 12 allowed.

On Monday, July 31, 2023, Baxter Health implemented a new sign-in process for all visitors who enter the hospital after visiting hours, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Those visitors will now be greeted by a Security Officer at the Cline Emergency Center corridor and asked to provide their name and the reason for their visit before they can access areas beyond the emergency department corridor.

Cafeteria Hours

The Cafeteria is open seven days a week for family members, staff, and visitors. The cafeteria is located on the first floor of the hospital near the rear of the facility. The daily menu is available by calling ext. 1633. The cafeteria hot meal service schedule is as follows:

  • Breakfast - 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
  • Lunch - 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • Dinner - 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekdays

Admission & Room Assignments

You will be assigned a room through our efficient admissions process, once you enter the hospital. During the admission process, you will be required to sign a form authorizing us to provide medical and/or surgical treatment for you. Minors will need to have a parent or guardian sign for them.

Patients & Personal Belongings

If you are a patient, please do not bring anything of value with you to Baxter Health. If you do decide to bring a valuable item, you should consider depositing it in our safe. While a procedure is being performed, items such as watches, contacts, and glasses should be left in the care of a friend or family member. You can place any personal clothing that you bring with you in a patient belongings bag and attached it to a tag indicating your name and room number. Also, please remember to bring your medication bottles with you if you have a prescription so we can refill them for you, if necessary.

Medications

All medicine that you take in Baxter Health must be prescribed by your physician, given to you by a nurse, or provided by the hospital pharmacy. No patients are allowed to take their own medication or keep personal drugs at their bedside.

Smoking

Arkansas law prohibits smoking in and on the grounds or properties of all medical facilities in the state, including hospitals, hospital-owned and -operated ambulatory surgery centers, and hospital-owned and -operated freestanding medical clinics. This also includes all vehicles parked on facility grounds or used by the facility. Per Arkansas law, all Baxter Health facilities, grounds, vehicles and property are smoke-free effective October 1, 2005.

Telephones

To make it convenient for you, all patient rooms are equipped with a telephone. To ensure our patients can rest and recover in peace and quiet, patients are allowed to receive calls between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Calls that are received after 10:30 p.m. will be transferred to the skilled nurses on your floor. You can make local calls whenever you want from your room by simply dialing nine, waiting for the dial tone, and then dialing the local number you wish to reach. Nurses and family members can request patients’ phones be turned off. When you are first admitted, you will be assigned a room number. You can give this number to friends and family to that they can contact you directly. Long distance phone calls cannot be charged to your room.

Spiritual Care/Chaplain

The Spiritual Care department is located on 2 South, near the ICU. Our chaplain serves as a liaison between the hospital and your community of faith. The chaplain can be reached at extension 7750.

Door Locking/Parking Area Patrol

We lock all of our exterior exits at 9:00 p.m. and reopen them at 6:00 a.m. Visitors can enter Baxter Health through our emergency department for the hours in-between. We routinely patrol our parking lots and property to help prevent vandalism or theft and to identify improperly parked vehicles.

Firearms

Firearms are prohibited from being taken on hospital grounds unless in the case of a law enforcement officer escorting a prisoner or conducting other official business.

Fire Drills

Baxter Health regularly conducts fire and disaster drills, for your safety. If a drill happens while you are a patient at our hospital, please stay in your room and do not be alarmed. Our staff is highly trained in fire protection and our hospital is a fire-resistant building.

Identification

All Baxter Health employees are easily identifiable by blue-and-white identification badges worn on the upper part of the body. All hospital volunteers are easily identifiable by their yellow shirts and jackets and their pink-and-white identification badges.

Celebrating Birthdays & Anniversaries

If you have a birthday or a wedding anniversary while a patient at Baxter Health, please tell your nurse so that the dietary personnel can be notified. We would like to help you celebrate by preparing a special surprise for you.

Mail & Flowers

Our volunteers deliver packages and mail to patients every morning. Any packages or letters that arrive at Baxter Health after you have already been discharged will be sent on to your home address. Stationery and stamps can be purchased at the Pink-A-Dilly Gift Shop. Our volunteers also deliver flowers to patients’ rooms.

Mailbox

Our mailbox is situated at the hospital’s rear entrance, between the cafeteria and the education office.

Money Changers

Our money changers are situated in the vending machine areas.

Out-of-Town Visitors

Accommodations for relatives and visitors from out of town are available at nearby motels. The Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce has a complete listing. Call 870-425-5111 or visit enjoymountainhome.com for more information.

RV spots also are available, on campus, for a small fee. Please contact Security at (870) 508-3600.

Newspapers

Hospital volunteers deliver copies of The Baxter Bulletin newspaper to each patient room Monday through Saturday. Other copies of the local newspaper may be purchased from boxes located at the entrance to the Medical Arts Building, the entrance to the east lobby or at the rear entrance to the hospital outside the cafeteria. Copies of the state-circulated Arkansas Democrat-Gazette may also be purchased at the rear entrance to the hospital.

Transportation

North Arkansas Transportation Service (NATS) provides local transportation for those who require transportation in a wheelchair-equipped vehicle. This service is available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 48-hour notice is required. Anyone needing this type of transportation may call the Mountain Home NATS office at (870) 425-6989 to schedule a ride. Taxi service is also available in the Mountain Home area. Condition Reports/Confidentiality

All personal information regarding your treatment and diagnosis needs to come from your doctor. Also, this information is available to your immediate family members whom you choose to receive it. Any family members who call Baxter Health to ask for your condition reports will have their call transferred to the nurse’s station on your floor or your room.

Gift Shop

The Pink-A-Dilly Gift Shop’s staff is comprised of volunteers and is situated near the east lobby on the hospital’s first floor. A vast range of gifts are available including freshly cut flowers. You may also purchase postage stamps here. You can call extension 1063 for more information about our gift shop.

Gifts for Patients

Please make sure visitors check with nurses before bringing in gifts of food or drinks to make sure that they are appropriate for the patient. Regarding the intensive care units, please make sure to first check with the unit staff before giving any gifts to a patient.
