Lab Tests and Procedures

We offer a wide array of testing procedures at our laboratory, including:

  • Clinical Biochemistry – Analyses endogenous and therapeutic chemicals present in the blood that determine health and or effective therapy.
  • Coagulation – Measures the bloods ability to form healthy blood clots to ensure homeostasis. This prevents excessive blood loss.
  • Hematology – Evaluates the type, number and maturity of cells present in blood, body fluids and bone marrow to detect abnormalities and monitor treatment.
  • Microbiology Detects infection and identifies the causative agent via culture, staining/biochemical characteristics and DNA/RNA analysis by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Sensitivity testing determines which antibiotics will effectively cure the infection.
  • Transfusion Services (Blood Bank) – Ensures the availability and compatibility of blood products for medical, surgical and emergency needs.
  • Pain Medication Monitoring (Toxicology) – Urine drug screening followed by definitive analysis by mass spec-liquid chromatography as needed to measure the level of prescribed and illicit drugs.
  • Immunology/Serology – Detects infections and conditions based on reactions designed to measure the presence or absence of antibodies to specific agents.
  • Urinalysis – Through chemical analysis followed by microscopic examination using advanced image recognition software, Baxter Regional Clinical Scientists detect urinary tract infections and abnormalities.
  • Pathology (Anatomical/Histological, Cytologic and Dermatological) – Examination of body tissues and organs to diagnose disease, infection and other abnormalities.
  • Phlebotomy/Specimen Collection – One of the most important areas of Medical Technology, Specimen collection must be performed precisely and meticulously to ensure sample integrity, accuracy of reporting and patient compart and safety.
  • Reference Lab Services – Baxter Regional performs testing for over 20 regional healthcare providers and facilities.
