Baxter Health is the only hospital in North Central Arkansas to offer a complete cardiac care program. Our extensive heart care procedures include open heart surgery, diagnostic angiography, interventional angiography, cardiac rehab, minimally invasive surgery, and more.
More than 500,000 coronary artery bypass surgeries are performed each year in the United States, making it one of the most common surgeries. Under the leadership of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons, the Baxter Health Heart Team performs almost 200 open-heart surgeries each year.
The first open-heart surgery was performed at Baxter Health in 1998, and in 1999 the hospital began offering angioplasty/stent placement.
Since 1991, Baxter Health’s cardiac catheterization lab has performed thousands of procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease. Each year, the Baxter Health Heart Team performs more than 350 angioplasties, 1,000 cardiac catheterizations and insert angioplasty/stents for the treatment of heart and vascular disease, including coronary artery disease.
Baxter Health’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program provides individualized care for patients who have had heart attacks, coronary bypass surgery, angioplasty, stable angina, or for patients who are considered prone to cardiac disease. The program relies on medically proven exercise therapy and patient education.
Baxter Health’s staff physicians refer their patients to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. Each referring physician follows his or her patient’s progress through periodic written reports prepared by the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
Baxter Health uses the Abiomed Impella Heart Pump for minimally invasive cardiac procedures. Cardiologists affiliated with Baxter Health can add the world’s smallest heart pump to their portfolio of treatment options to assist critically ill heart patients – just another way that Baxter Health is on the cutting edge of cardiovascular health care.
