BRMC Dietitian Selected for National Chronic Kidney Disease Study
Jan Halligan, RD, LD, CDE, of the Reppell Diabetes Learning Center of Baxter
Regional Medical Center has been chosen to participate in an evidence-based
practice (EBP) review of the new Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Toolkit
that will be utilized for future education pieces nationwide. This will
not only be beneficial to renal patients but also to diabetes patients
who may also be experiencing some renal problems.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in Chicago, Illinois, is sponsoring
the trial, and participants will be reviewing, using and reporting on
the outcomes of use of the CKD Toolkit. The toolkit is a standardized
educational guideline that has been developed to help people with the
many dietary changes that have to be made in order to fight CKD, no matter
the cause. Halligan applied for this EBP group and was chosen as one of
only 10 practicing dietitians in the United States to review the CKD toolkit.
andldquo;Some people will have chronic kidney disease from diabetes complications;
others develop it without any diagnosis of diabetes. This toolkit, if
accepted and deemed useful, can be used for many scopes of practice including
dietitians, physicians, nurse practitioners, and nephrologists,”
Halligan stated. "I am honored and humbled to have been chosen for
this much needed research.”
