The BRMC Employee Children and Grandchildren Scholarship was established
in 2004 and has since awarded $215,000 in scholarships to 265 students.
It is available to graduating seniors who are the children or grandchildren
of BRMC employees and residents of Arkansas or Missouri. Scholarships
are awarded based on academic achievement and financial need. The parent
or grandparent must have been employed with BRMC for at least one year
and must have worked 500 hours in the last twelve months.
Nearly every department at BRMC has had an employeeandrsquo;s family benefit
from this scholarship. In the words of one scholarship recipient, “I
would like to personally thank you for selecting me to be a recipient
of this scholarship. I am so grateful for the amazing opportunities that
are ahead of me, and this scholarship will set me one step forward in
reaching my dreams. Once again, thank you so much.”
The Employee Fund Drive committee originally established this scholarship
to fund twenty $1,000 scholarships ($500 per semester) each year, but
every year the number of scholarship requests increases. Since the BRMC
Employee Fund Drive began in 2000, over $1.4 million has been pledged
in support of the Employee Children and Grandchildren Scholarship Fund
as well as the Employee Crisis Fund, Friends Funds, Mountain Home Christian
Clinic, Hospice House and the four BRMC community health and support houses
- Mruk Family Education Center on Aging, Peitz Cancer Support House,
Reppell Diabetes Learning Center and Schliemann Center for Women’s
Health Education.
