The Spiritual Care Department of Baxter Regional Medical Center invites
you to spend an afternoon with The Chaplain: Norris Burkes on Monday,
September 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Lagerborg Dining Room of BRMC. Chaplain
Burkes will be speaking on
Lessons of Forgiveness from a War Zone.Norris Burkes is a Chaplain in the Air National Guard and
Ft. Myers News-Press columnist, endorsed by the Southern Baptist General Convention and certified
by the Association of Professional Chaplains. His weekly column,
Spirituality, takes a spiritual, often comical - if not irreverent – look
at everyday life. He is syndicated with Gannett News Service in over 50
publications nationwide that reach over 1 million readers weekly, including
The Baxter Bulletin.
Lessons of Forgiveness from a War Zone is a talk to preview Chaplain Burkesandrsquo; upcoming book, describing
his unenviable task of delivering death notifications to the families
of those killed in action. After the 25th such announcement, he volunteered
for deployment to the Air Force Field Hospital in Balad, Iraq, where he
sees firsthand how and why soldiers are dying. From his combat landing
in Iraq to his crash-landing four months later at Baltimore-Washington
International, Burkes tells the stories of the combat wounded as they
struggle to overcome both physical and moral injuries, mourn their losses,
and, astonishingly, forgive their enemies.
