BRMC Mobile Mammography awarded Komen grant
The Arkansas Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure recently handed out
21 grants totaling over $1 million to Arkansas organizations at an annual
luncheon held in Little Rock.
Baxter Regional Medical Center was awarded a grant in the amount of $80,381 for the
BRMC Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) under Project Director and
Baxter Regional Hospital Foundation Director of Development Cindy Costa, CFRE.
The overall goal of the MMU is to help overcome some of the barriers faced
by women living in a rural area by bringing the mobile unit to a centralized
location in their area. With the mobile unit, Baxter Regional Medical
Center is able to reach larger numbers of women who would not normally
be served due to distance constraints. This grant also provides a number
of free mammograms to women without insurance. The BRMC Mobile Mammography
Unit provides the best 3D technology available to aid in the early detection
of breast cancer.
This marks the 20th year for the Komen organization to award grants to
programs around the state who are working in the fight against breast
cancer. The funds are predominantly raised through the annual Race for
the Cure event, and in 2013, a total of $1,006,737 was raised and distributed
throughout Arkansas.
