Kidz in Motion...Keeping Kids Healthy & Active
We are constantly reminded in print, videos and on television that childhood
diabetes and obesity is gaining ground in the United States; but Baxter
Regional Medical Center’s Active Lifestyle Institute is once again
tackling the task to help keep our kids in the Twin Lakes Area healthy
and active. This is the third year that BRMC’s Active Lifestyle
Institute, Cline Emergency Centers' Trauma Unit and MH Parks &
Recreation’s L.C. Sammons Youth Center have collaborated to keep
kids safe, healthy and active. This event raises awareness for healthy
and active lifestyles for our area children. This is a fun and interactive
environment for the children. Mike Beam, Director of the Active Lifestyle
Institute said, “The purpose of this event is to promote health
and wellness information in a fun, active and kid-friendly environment.
These children love the interactive presentations, obstacle courses, fruit
smoothie station and of course, the bike rodeo. These events are well
attended and the information provided to these children is extremely beneficial
to their well-being and our ongoing commitment to active lifestyles.”
BRMC offers many programs through the year that spotlight health and wellness
for men and women alike, and it is an added benefit that this program
speaks solely to our youth. This year the program has added cardiology
to the program along with a program about water safety. Louise Stancil,
one of last years attendees remarked, “I was impressed with the
level of knowledge that was presented in this type of event. There were
physicians and many other medical professionals working side by side –
all for the benefit of our children.” Donna McMullen, Marketing
Director at BRMC, noted, “I attended last years Kidz ‘n Motion
and am thankful to the L.C. Sammons Youth Center and their wonderful staff
for their efforts on behalf of our local communities. BRMC works very
hard to promote this type of event throughout our region and we are encouraged
by the interest shown by attendees to this event, and many others that
we offer throughout the year.” This is a free event for area children;
however, they must pre-register to attend. Registrations for the 2012
Kidz in Motion event can be made online at www.baxterregional.org.
