Referrals
All home healthcare is carried out under the direction of the patient’s
personal physician. If you are in need of home healthcare, contact your
doctor, or call the BRMC Home Health at (870) 435-7500.
Eligibility
To qualify for payment of home health services under Medicare, Medicaid,
and most private insurance, the patient must meet the following criteria:
- Presently under the care of a physician
- Homebound or unable to leave home without assistance. Under current law,
to qualify as homebound, a Medicare beneficiary does not need to be bedridden,
but must generally be confined to his or her home. If the patient does
leave the home for nonmedical purposes, these absences must be for short
periods of time or infrequently.
- Requires intermittent skilled care from a nurse or therapist
- Skilled care requires the special skills, knowledge, and judgment of a
licensed professional to ensure the safety of the patient and to achieve
the medically desired results. While custodial care may be essential to
a patient’s well-being, it does not constitute skilled care.
Costs
Payment is made by Medicare or Medicaid for patients who qualify under
these programs, and reimbursement reflects actual agency cost for the
provision of services. Home health services are also covered by private
insurance, private pay and workers’ compensation.
