ANGELS
The Antenatal and Neonatal Guidelines, Education and Learning System (ANGELS) is an innovative consultative service that uses many different applications of telemedicine, a 24-hour call center and evidence-based guidelines to deliver effective treatments to high-risk obstetric patients statewide.
The teleconferencing equipment in the BRMC Women’s Center links the patient in Mountain Home to the specialist in Little Rock. In "real time," the specialists consult with the local physician during prenatal and postnatal exams via telecommunication. "This program allows patients to access the expertise of OB specialists without having to make a trip that can be costly and inconvenient, especially during later stages of pregnancy,"
When it is time for delivery, the specialist is linked to the labor-and-delivery room to consult with local healthcare providers. When an OB patient does require transport to UAMS, the Stork One neonatal care team may accompany the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Angel One team. Stork One is a team of highly skilled nurses, all with years of high-risk OB experience and advanced certification, and is part of the ANGELS program.
The ANGELS program also includes a 24-hour call center available to local patients and healthcare providers. ANGELS was established in 2002 by the UAMS Division of Maternal-fetal Medicine and the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services with support from the Arkansas Medical Society.
