Hospice – Celebrating 30 Years!

Hospice of the Ozarks is a nonprofit subsidiary of Baxter Regional Medical Center dedicated to improving the quality of life for people faced with terminal illness. The program has provided hospice services to residents of Baxter and Marion counties since 1979.

What is hospice?

Hospice of the Ozarks provides support and care for people in the last phases of an incurable illness so they can live as fully and as comfortably as possible. The hospice concept is about caring for people rather than curing disease and is often a less expensive and more appropriate method of care. Hospice allows the individual to remain at home, surrounded by family and friends, with a primary focus on pain relief and management.

In 2005, Hospice of the Ozarks opened the Hospice House, a 12-bed facility providing a homelike setting for terminally ill patients who want hospice care but are unable to receive care in their own homes. It also provides respite care for caregivers of in-home hospice patients, allowing for relief from the daily responsibilities of caring for the hospice patient, with the assurance that their loved one is receiving the best possible care.

As a not-for-profit organization, Hospice of the Ozarks depends on donations, memorials and bequests in order to provide care to those in need in the community.

Volunteers are needed to provide patient sitting, family assistance and transportation services. A training program is offered twice a year by the volunteer coordinator.
