The Mruk Family Center on Aging
The Mruk Family Center on Aging (MFCOA) is dedicated to helping you live a longer and healthier life. The MFCOA provides educational programs, resources and healthcare services to older adults and their families to help them address aging issues. Available services include:
- "Journey to Healthy Aging" programs
- AARP safe driver courses
- Education and support groups
- Resource library
- Family caregiver workshops
- "Strong Women" exercise program
- Medicare drug plan assistance
- "Lunch and Learn" programs
The center includes a classroom for educational and consultation services related to home safety, caregiving, geriatric medicine and other aging issues. Regular educational programs cover a variety of health topics, such as Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis and dementia. Monthly programs include:
- Better Breathers – meets the second Friday of each month at 2 p.m. at BRCOA
- Dementia and Alzheimer’s – meets the second Friday of each month at 3:30 p.m. at Van Matre Senior Center
- Parkinson’s – meets the first Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. at BRCOA
- Stroke – meets the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. at BRCOA
- Brain Teasers – meets the third Friday of each month at 1 p.m. at BRCOA
The MFCOA resource library offers books, DVDs, pamphlets and other materials about healthy aging. A computer with Internet access is also available for patients to search for more information online.
The Mruk Family Center on Aging is a program of the Arkansas Aging Initiative’s Schmieding Center for Senior Health and Education and Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, in partnership with Baxter Regional Medical Center and Arkansas State University – Mountain Home.
